 With his debut album “Keep Your Joy” (Ghetto Technology Label) kicking off in early 2002 and swiftly followed up by “Unlimited” (Reggae Vibes Label), there is no stopping this prolific young DJ. His uplifting voice is an answer to the people’s cry for more positivity in Dancehall and Reggae music today.
He was born in the tribe Gad, in the parish of Manchester, Jamaica. As a child he adopted the pet name Perry Mason, due to his ability to pacify situations amongst peers in his neighborhood. His career began under the guidance of reggae superstar Junior Reid, who produced and released Mason’s first song “Selassie I Call We”, under the name Perry Mason. Soon after him and his good friend Jah Cure linked with Capleton and David House, which later inspired him to change his name from Perry Mason to Jah Mason. From this point he began work for Jah as the “Builder for Righteousness”, vowing that every word he sang would be a brick laid for the house of Righteousness.
Touching many parts of the Caribbean, Europe, the U.K. and Japan, Jah Mason continues to utilize his talented voice worldwide. Currently Jah Mason continues collaborations with top-rated Jamaican producers.
Jah Mason’s songs have wide appeal because they can be fast and intense enough for the hardcore Dancehall fans yet yield to a slower, rootsy vibe. He has an affinity for performing the most cultural riddims and has been greatly influenced by positive artists like Capleton, Determine and the venerable Bob Marley whose strong lyrical contents add strength to their message. He professes that “Cultural gets the message to the people, explains something. It gets across to the people who can take time out to listen. Slower riddims aren’t rushed and you have time.” And that “something” Jah Mason is here to explain is all about opening minds to the most cultural precepts of caring, sharing and living together in harmony. He bases his music on love, divinity and everyday living so that his message will endure over time. Jah Mason’s own life is one of purity in mind, body and soul. The Bobo Ashanti finds inspiration on his farm in the country then broadcasts secular dancehall paying tribute to all things positive, guided by the Rastafarian faith and propelled into the mainstream market reborn with modern, digital splendor.
The global Dancehall bomb is sparked for detonation and conscious artists like Jah Mason are carrying the torch.
In spring 2010 Jah Mason released his latest album called “Keep Ya Head Up”.
Jah Mason backed by French band Dub Akom will perform first time in Poland at Ostroda Reggae Festival on 15th August 2010.
