Legendarna grupa Jarexa jest na polskiej scenie od początku, nieustannie dostarczając wibracje na najwyższym, autorskim poziomie.
Założycielem, liderem, autorem i kompozytorem w zespole Bakshish jest Jarosław „Jarex” Kowalczyk. Bakszysz oznacza w języku arabskim „podarunek, dar” i takim podarunkiem jest muzyka i niosący nadzieję przekaz zespołu. To jeden z pierwszych i najważ̇niejszych polskich zespołów reggae, grupa powstała w 1982 roku w Kluczborku. Już w 1982 roku zespół zagrał pierwsze koncerty. W tym czasie zespół odniósł pierwsze znaczące sukcesy, w tym awans do finału konkursu radiowej Trójki „Kto najlepszy w tym Rocku” i udział w konkursie finałowym w Jarocinie 1983 (nagroda). Bakshish w tym okresie można było spotkać na dużych festiwalach w całej Polsce, takich jak: FAMA w Świnoujściu, Muzyczny Camping w Brodnicy, Przystanek Olecko w Olecku, Reggae nad Wartą w Gorzowie Wielkopolskim i Róbrege w Warszawie. W 1991 roku odbyli swoją pierwszą trasę po Niemczech, gdzie nagrali kolejne piosenki. Na potrzeby tej trasy wydali kasetę demo pt. Open Your Heart zawierającą piosenki z sesji w studiu Radiu Opole jak i studiu studenckim Radiosygnałów, gdzie słychać pierwsze próby twórczego podejścia do dubu. W 1992 roku w studio Złota Skała zrealizowali swoją pierwszą płytę “One Love”, która sprzedała się w kilkudziesię̨ciu tysiącach egzemplarzy. Płyta przyniosła wiele przebojów (m.in.: Czas, Samotność, Good Life) i okazała się przełomem w karierze zespołu. Ten po raz kolejny wyjechał na koncerty do Niemiec, a następnie zarejestrował koncert w Krakowie, wyemitowany przez TVP. Drugą płytą było wydane w 1994 roku “Eye”. Płyta została nagrana została w studiu Polskiego Radia Łódź, a jej producentem był Felix Wolter, lider niemieckiej formacji reggae The Vision. Powtórzyła sukces debiutu i umocniła pozycję zespołu. W ramach dziesiątek koncertów w ramach promocji płyty znalazł się niezapomniany występ dla kilkunastu tysię̨cy osób w trakcie „Dni Chaosu” w Hanowerze. W 1996 roku w domowym zaciszu Jarex stworzył, pierwszy w Polsce projekt techno-dubowy Tabu Duby, który doczekał się̨ trzech wydawnictw. W 2000 roku Bakshish nagrał album „B 3”, który promował singiel “Jak łzy”. Moż̇na było ich spotkać na wielu krajowych festiwalach i koncertach i zagranicą, w klubach i salach koncertowych Wielkiej Brytanii, Niemczech, Irlandii i Francji. „I-4-VER” to czwarty album zespołu, znajdziesz na niej kompozycje utrzymane w klimacie dub-reggae-soul-jazz, stające się odważnymi eksperymentami muzycznymi. Po serii koncertów od 2020, zespół postanowił uczcić 40-lecie istnienia nowym albumem. Do współpracy w realizacji „Ego” zaprosili niemieckiego producenta i dubmastera Umberto Echo. Usłyszysz tam utwory premierowe, jak m.in. „Polska”, „Anioł” czy historyczne „Uczucia” czy „Nie musisz”. Płyta okazała się najlepiej rotującym albumem na krajowej scenie reggae/ dub w 2022 roku. Dziś mówią o swoim stylu „folk miejski”.

The legendary band been on the Polish scene from the beginning, constantly delivering vibrations at the highest and original level.
The founder, leader, author and composer of the Bakshish band is Jarosław „Jarex” Kowalczyk. Their name in Arabic means „gift” and such a gift is the music and the hope-giving message of the band. This is one of the first and most important Polish reggae bands, formed in 1982 in Kluczbork. The band played its first concerts in 1982. At that time, the band achieved its first significant successes, including reaching the finals of the Radio Trójka competition „Who’s the best in this Rock” and participation in the final competition in Jarocin 1983 (award). Bakshish could be seen at large festivals throughout Poland at that time, such as: FAMA in Świnoujście, Muzyczny Camping in Brodnica, Przystanek Olecko in Olecko, Reggae nad Wartą in Gorzów Wielkopolski and Róbrege in Warsaw. In 1991, they went on their first tour in Germany, where they recorded more songs. For this tour they released a demo tape entitled „Open Your Heart”, containing songs from the sessions in the Radio Opole studio and the student studio of Radiosygnały, where their first attempts at a creative approach to dub can be heard. In 1992, in the Złota Skała studio they recorded their first album „One Love”, which sold tens of thousands of copies. The album brought many hits (including: Czas, Samotność, Good Life) and turned out to be a breakthrough in the band’s career. The band once again went for shows in Germany, and then recorded a concert in Krakow, broadcasted by the Polish National TV. The second album was “Eye”, released in 1994. The album was recorded in the studio of Polish Radio Łódź, and its producer was Felix Wolter, the leader of the German reggae band The Vision. It repeated the success of the debut and strengthened the position of the band. Among dozens of concerts to promote the album, there was an unforgettable performance for several thousand people during the “Days of Chaos” in Hanover. In 1996, in the privacy of his home, Jarex created the first techno-dub project in Poland, Tabu Duby, which has had three releases. In 2000, Bakshish recorded the album “B 3”, promoted by the single “Jak łzy”. They could be seen at many festivals and shows in Poland and abroad, in clubs and concert halls in Great Britain, Germany, Ireland and France. „I-4-VER” is the band’s fourth album, on it you will find compositions maintained in the atmosphere of dub-reggae-soul-jazz, that were musical experiments. After a series of concerts since 2020, the band decided to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their existence with a new album. They invited German producer and dubmaster Umberto Echo to cooperate in production of „Ego”. You will hear premiere songs there, such as „Polska”, „Anioł” or historical „Uczucia” or „Nie masz”. The album turned out to be the best rotating album on the national reggae/dub scene in 2022. Today they call their style „urban folk”.
