THE CONGOS

The Congos are one of the last Jamaican groups to have remained in their original lineup since the 1970s, and this unity and powerful cohesion are undeniably felt during their concerts, which are veritable Rastafarian rituals.

Indeed, Cedric Myton, Congo Ashanti Roy, Watty Burnett and Talash are true Rastafarians who live and act in accordance with the image they project and who have remained close to their roots and principles.
Their fame was initially built around the legendary album „Heart of the Congos” (1977) recorded at Lee „Scratch” Perry’s iconic Black Ark studio. This album contains gems of roots reggae that showcase their vocal performances, such as „La La Bam Bam,” „Open The Gate,” and „Congo Man,” but above all the famous „Fisherman”, which Rolling Stone magazine considers one of the 10 best reggae tracks of all time. Like many other artists of that era, they have been less prolific in recent years, but their albums from last decades, including „Swinging Bridge” and „Back in the Black Ark” (re-recorded with Lee Perry) still contain timeless songs carried by exceptional vocal harmonies. They have about 20 albums on their account. The Congos recorded with Groundation, Pura Vida, Inna De Yard and many others. In 2019 they performed in Ostróda with the Belgian band Pura Vida. Ever tireless, they are toured Europe in 2024 with The Gladiators.
