The Selecter prowadzony jest przez kultową wokalistkę Pauline Black. Jest jedną z niewielu kobiet na scenie 2-Tone, często bywa nazywaną Królową Ska. Została uhonorowana Orderem Imperium Brytyjskiego. Pauline znana jest na całym świecie z takich hitów jak „Three Minute Hero”, „Missing Words”, „Too Much Pressure” i „On My Radio”. The Selecter wciąż koncertuje i wydaje nową muzykę, udowadniając, że duch 2-Tone jest tak samo istotny i ważny jak 40 lat temu. W 2023 wydali wysoko oceniany szesnasty album „Human Algebra”.

Skład zespołu Selecter był zróżnicowany zarówno pod względem rasy, jak i płci. W oryginalnym składzie występował duet wokalny Arthur „Gaps” Hendrickson i Pauline Black. Zespół był jednym z najbardziej znanych zespołów ska ery 2-Tone, z kilkoma piosenkami na liście UK Singles Chart. Byli jednymi z współtwórców całego nowego muzycznego ruchu, pierwszy utwór wydając na wspólnym singlu z The Specials. Choć byli bardzo wpływowi, oryginalny skład funkcjonował tylko przez rok, a po zmianach rozpadli się w 1981 roku. The Selecter reaktywował się w 1991 roku i istnieje do dziś. Zespół pod przewodnictwem Pauline Black nadal koncertuje i wydaje nową muzykę.
W październiku 2024 roku na London Film Festival BFI miał premierę film dokumentalny „Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story”.
The Selecter niedawno supportowali Blur na londyńskim stadionie Wembley, a także wystąpili na żywo podczas transmitowanej na cały świat ceremonii zamknięcia Igrzysk Wspólnoty Narodów w Birmingham. W obecnym składzie występuje oryginalny perkusista grupy Charley „Aitch” Bembridge. Niestety współtwórca zespołu Arthur „Gaps” Hendrickson, który do niedawna występował z zespołem, zmarł w czerwcu 2024 roku.
Anarchiczna pasja, która napędzała koncerty The Selecter we wspaniałej erze 2-Tone, wciąż jest tu obecna. Występują na festiwalach na całym świecie. W 2024 roku The Selecter dwukrotnie odwiedził USA i zagrał na wielu koncertach i festiwalach w Wielkiej Brytanii i Europie.
Najwyższy czas powrócić do Polski, gdzie zespół zagrał swój jedyny koncert w 2013 roku.

The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black OBE. One of very few women in the 2-Tone scene, she is often referred to as the Queen of Ska. Known the world over for hits including “Three Minute Hero,” “Missing Words,” “Too Much Pressure” and “On My Radio” The Selecter continue to tour and release new music proving that 2-Tone is still as relevant and important as it was 40 years ago. The Selecter released their much-acclaimed new studio album “Human Algebra” in 2023.
The Selecter is an English 2 tone ska band, formed in Coventry in 1979.
The Selecter featured a diverse line-up, both in terms of race and gender, initially led by Arthur 'Gaps’ Hendrickson and Pauline Black on vocals.
The band were one of the most successful ska bands of the 2-Tone era, notching up several top forty singles in the UK Singles Chart. Having co-released the first 2-Tone ska single with The Specials, they were one of the founding acts of the movement. Though influential, the original lineup only remained together for a year, and even with replacement players the band continued until breaking up in 1981.
The Selecter reformed in 1991 and continues up to day. Pauline Black-led line-up still tours and releases albums most recently releasing “Human Algebra”, the band’s 16th studio album in 2023.
A new feature documentary “Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story” had its premiere at the BFI’s London Film Festival in October 2024.
The Selecter recently supported Blur at London’s Wembley Stadium and also performed live to at the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in Birmingham which was broadcast to a global audience. Original drummer Charley ‘Aitch’ Bembridge plays at the current live Selecter line-up. Sadly original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson, who had been performing with the band until recently, passed away in June 2024 after a short illness.
The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the original 2-Tone era is still there as they continue to perform at festivals and venues around the world. 2024 has seen the Selecter visit the USA twice and play a number of shows and festivals around the UK & Europe.
It is high time to return to Poland, where the band performed their only show in 2013.
