Invigorating, heartfelt and intoxicating are only a few words to describe the music of this young and vibrant Jamaican roots reggae artist.
Samory I has been present on the local reggae scene since 2015 winning the recognition of “Break-through Artist of the Year”. His first release was “Scepter” SP produced by Russ Disciples from UK. A year later the world could hear him with German producers Silly Walks on “I am Gad”. Also, “Take me Oh Jah” and “African Daughter” hit the international airways.
The groundbreaking point in his career was his work with acclaimed Jamaican producer Rory Stonelove. “He grants us a look through the eyes of a ghetto youth in today’s world” – Rory commented in the beginning of this new chapter. Their first single together, “Rasta Nuh Gangsta” (2017), became an instant hit (almost 4 million views!) and it’s a real manifesto against gangsters’ violent attitude. His debut album “Black Gold” was released on Black Dub label in March 2017. Among many brillant songs it also includes a cover of Syl Johnson’s “Is It Because I’m Black” – masterpiece in the musical history of fighting for racial equality.
Reggaeville.com commented the album: “A reggae album in the genre’s most essential form. No easy-peasy beach and sunshine affair, no bling-bling ingratiation to pop markets, but heavy, painfully honest roots that Samory I turns into an authentic memorial of the history reggae’s been born out of – suffarah’s music.”
After success of the album Samory I could be seen at high profile European festivals like Reggae Sun Ska, Rototom Sunsplash or Boomtown.
“Call on Jah” on the rhythm recorded in Spain by Najavibes’ musicians and mixed by Roberto Sánchez and “Feeling”, back with Rory Stonelove at the controls, are his latest releases.
One of the best new artists of Jamaica in Poland for the first time, bringing pure fire with his band The Black Heart. Welcome!
